More than 8.3% of all deaths worldwide and 5.7% of the global burden of disease are attributable to preventable human exposure to toxic chemicals, according to a recent scientific publication co-authored by Dr Haefliger. This represents 4.9 million deaths and 86 million Disability Adjusted Life Years DALYs that could be prevented every year through improved chemicals management.
